SCENT PROFILE: Spun Sugar - Lemon Cake - Cream
“Qu’ils mangent de la brioche”
Married at 15, beheaded at 37. There is no evidence in all of history that Marie Antoinette ever said that starving peasants should eat cake. What we do know is that a tale quoting a noblewoman as the source of “If they have no bread, let them eat cake!” appears in the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s book Confessions, written around 1766 (when little Marie was only eleven).
The saddest tale of all is that of ignorance wrapped in ribbons. Light this candle to immerse yourself in the ridiculous extravagance of the Royal Court in 18th century France; the most delicate of spun sugars and lemon cakes with cream so light they float.
